I’m really loving how weird my locs are looking. I swear these joints look different everyday. I think I’m going through this short awkward phase a lot better than I thought I would lol and it’s only going to get better. 😊😘😏💚✊👊👍💁#locs #locjourney #natural #naturalhair (Taken with Instagram)
The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl College Tour stopped at UMD last night
It was AMAZING! ISSA RAE IS AMAZING!
The event featured Issa Rae and Madison Shockley, who plays Fred. Even though I was hoping to see White Jay.
After watching the first 5 episodes there was a Q&A. She was naturally hilarious and very open to answering countless awkward questions. Even though she claims to be made up of only 30% awkwardness compared to her character. She discussed building a series / episode, funding, casting, moving to a major network, network execs who have a completely skewed idea of what appeals to black audiences. An exec, considering her show for a major network, actually suggested that a “Lauren London Type” play the main character instead. Needless to say she didn’t take that offer or any other offer. Her biggest goal would be creative control on a network like HBO. When Season 2 begins we can expect to see more about interracial dating though she stated that outside of her character she has never experienced interracial dating. Basically, it was a good night. She was inspiring and genuine. I couldn’t have asked for more.
Highlight of the night:
She freestyled. It was hilarious and perfect. Obviously!
